RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS
While visiting Chiang Mai, don't miss your chance to try the authentic Northern taste of Lanna cuisine. One of the places offering this unique Northern Thai treat, is the highly recommended Nam Mae Ping. The owners of Nam Mae Ping are eager to share recipes from a culinary heritage that has been passed down for generations.
The owner's mother oversees the preparation of meals here to
ensure adherence to original recipes. The restaurant offers both indoor and garden seating areas and you are guaranteed to experience the delightful flavors of these northern dishes in this reasonably priced, relaxed, private setting.
The Northern Thai Food Set "Nam Mae Ping" is ideal for those looking for a diverse dining experience and includes appetizers and main dishes. The Prawn in the Moon (steamed prawns in whole egg), Moo Toob (crushed grilled pork) and Nam Prik Awng (northern Thai red chili dip served with sticky rice) are also worth trying.
_________________________
Tembo is Swahili for elephant, thus translating White Tembo to white elephant (or Chang Puak in the local Thai dialect). This is your first clue as to the location of this traditional Thai food restaurant found in Chang Puak
district. Since the owners love Swahili decorations as much as they love cooking, the restaurant is decorated in a style mixing African and Islamic influences, and
featuring exotic and decorative items.
All of the recipes at White Tembo are derived from the cooking passions of the two owners who pride themselves on the quality of dishes they prepare. A variety of Thai traditional and healthy dishes are served and the recommended dish is the tasty Rice-flour Noodles with Sweet Chili Paste, which is a recipe that has been passed down by generations since the time of King Rama II. Other fine Thai cuisines served here are Spicy Crispy Pork with Lemongrass Salad. White Tembo also offers signature desserts such as Sugar Apple
Ice-cream, and Durian Ice-cream. The Scottish-style homemade scone is also highly recommended.
